Future Generations Reserve Fund

Bahrain · 2006 · Ministry of Finance (Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain)

The Future Generations Reserve was created by Law No. 28 of 2006, which sets aside a fixed amount per barrel of exported crude oil in a dedicated account at the Ministry of Finance. The Ministry invests the money and adds the returns to the reserve, and a board formed within the Ministry, chaired by the Finance Minister, sets the investment policy and approves the final accounts. The Audit Bureau audits the closing accounts, and the law requires approval of them by the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council. Law No. 5 of 2025 replaced Article 1 with a tiered amount per barrel, rising from 1 US dollar for prices above 40 up to 60 dollars to 5 dollars above 120 dollars. The laws state the amount that may be deducted and bar using the assets for anything other than investment except by law; INXEN has not found a published figure for the reserve's size, so none is shown.

Mandate: A reserve created by Bahrain's Law No. 28 of 2006 and funded by a fixed dollar amount per barrel of exported crude oil, with its investment returns added to it, according to the law's text.
